The correct back for the 503CW is a Type IV, and while there were limited edition versions in things like gold-tone trim, the basic ones are either chrome or black trimmed. The penalty for this over Hasselblad’s own V digital backs is having to have a sync cable plunged into the lens flash socket.The other downside is the camera body’s TTL flash metering doesn’t work because the high reflectivity of the digital back sensor confuses it as it is calibrated for the matt surface of film.

Hasselblad CFV backs, 16 MP to 50 MP, fit directly in place of the film back for a 503cw. You can use them without a sync cable, but a cable is more versatile and reliable. Unfortunately they have been discontinued. There are other compatible backs, but in the $20K or more bracket, compared to $8.5K for the CFV. Whether you want to do that or not, I suppose, is a matter of personal choice and your sensitivity to whether something is “correct” for your Hasselblad body.
